After a short pause, potential airspace threat alert issued again in Latgale
RIGA, June 8 (LETA) - From 11.23 a possible threat has been issued in the Latvian airspace in Rezekne, Balvi, Ludza and Kraslava municipalities, as well as in Rezekne, the National Armed Forces (NBS) informed LETA.
As regards to Kraslava and Ludza municipalities, the Armed Forces calls on people to stay indoors, observe the two-walls principle and follow official announcements. If a low-flying or suspicious object is spotted, people should not approach it, but call 112.
As reported, a possible airspace threat was issued in Aluksne, Ludza, Balvi and Rezekne municipalities, as well as Rezekne city, on Monday morning, LETA was informed by the National Armed Forces.
It was later reported that French fighter jets participating in NATO's Baltic air policing mission shot down a foreign unmanned aerial vehicle that had entered Latvian airspace as a result of Russian electronic warfare. The drone was shot down in Rogovka, Rezekne municipality. The airspace threat alert ended at 10.30.
The Armed Forces reminded that together with NATO allies they constantly monitor the airspace to ensure the ability to react immediately to potential threats. The Armed Forces have also reinforced its air defense capabilities on the eastern border by deploying additional units.
