Drone was shot down near Rogovka in Latgale
RIGA, June 8 (LETA) - A drone that entered Latvian airspace was shot down near Rogovka in Rezekne municipality on Monday, Guntars Skudra (New Unity), chairman of the municipal council, told LETA.
He was on his way to the scene, but according to preliminary information, no property or people were injured after the explosion.
The national guards have also been deployed to search for the wreckage of the drone.
As reported, allied fighter jets shot down a drone entering Latvian airspace on Monday morning, the National Armed Forces (NBS) said.
French fighter jets participating in NATO's Baltic air policing mission shot down a foreign unmanned aerial vehicle that had entered Latvian airspace as a result of Russian electronic warfare.
The drone was shot down for the first time since drones from abroad have been detected in Latvian airspace.
The NBS also informed that the potential threat in the airspace had ended.
