    40 people evacuated after explosive World War II ordnance found in Valmiera

    RIGA, July 14 (LETA) - Forty people were evacuated in Valmiera on Monday after the discovery of an explosive World War II shell, the local government informed LETA.

    The explosive World War II shell was found during excavation work on Graudu Street in Valmiera on Monday.

    Residents of homes within the potential blast range were notified of the find, and 40 people were evacuated. Emergency services cordoned off the area and called in unexploded ordnance disposal specialists from the National Armed Forces, who transported the explosive device for safe disposal.

    Afterward, the evacuated residents were able to return to their homes, and the Graudu Street section was reopened to traffic, according to the local government.
