Registered unemployment in Latvia drops to 4.5% at end-May
RIGA, June 11 (LETA) - At the end of May this year, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 4.5 percent of the economically active population, which is 0.2 percentage points lower than a month earlier, according to information published by the State Employment Agency (NVA).
At the end of May 2026, a total of 39,980 unemployed people were registered with NVA, which is 1,527 fewer than a month earlier, when 41,507 people were registered as jobless with the agency.
The lowest registered unemployment rate at the end of May remained in the Riga region - 3.5 percent of the economically active population, down 0.1 percentage point from a month earlier, while the highest registered unemployment rate was in the Latgale region - 9.5 percent, down 0.2 percentage points from a month earlier.
In Vidzeme, the registered unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points in May to 4 percent of the economically active population at the end of the month.
Similarly, the registered unemployment rates in Zemgale and Kurzeme decreased by 0.2 percentage points in May, to 4.3 percent and 4.4 percent of the economically active population, respectively.
At the end of 2025, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 5 percent of the economically active population.
