Latvia routs Hungary to advance to Hockey World Championship quarterfinals
ZURICH, May 26 (LETA) - In their final Group A match at this year's Ice Hockey World Championships on Tuesday, the Latvian national men's ice hockey team defeated Hungary 8:1 to secure a quarterfinal berth.
Sandis Vilmanis scored two goals for Latvia, while Rudolfs Balcers, Deniss Smirnovs, Toms Andersons, Miks Tumanovs, Renars Krastenbergs and Eduards Tralmaks each scored one goal. Tralmaks also had to assists today.
Kristers Gudlevskis stopped 14 shots on goal.
In the Group A standings at the moment, Switzerland and Finland have 18 points each, while Latvia has finished in third place with 12 points. The fourth-place finisher will be decided in a United States vs. Austria match later today.
